The Chinese Economic Development Council is dedicated to making Boston’s Chinatown a better place to live and work. Our website is an important tool in the pursuit of this mission. We have adopted the following privacy policy to make it safe and easy for you to use our website.

We collect two kinds of information, website usage statistics, which are anonymous, and individual information.

Website usage statistics

Our web server automatically collects anonymous information about visitors to our site, such as the number of visitors, the pages they access, and the documents they download. This information is used in aggregate form in order to manage our website and improve its content.

Individual information

We collect individual information about you when you choose to share information about yourself, for example, when you make a donation or request information. This information may include your postal or e-mail address and your telephone number.

Individual information is used to provide you with information or to deliver the service you have requested. If you provide your postal address, telephone number or email address to us online, you may receive any of the following periodic contacts from us:

  • Mailings with information about additional Chinese Economic Development Council programs, services and events.
  • Mailings that invite you to contribute.
  • E-mail contact to respond to your questions, comments or suggestions.

Sharing Information

The Chinese Economic Development Council will not share or sell your personal information obtained via the website with other organizations or businesses. The Chinese Economic Development Council may share personal information (postal address) of constituents we contact solely through the U.S. Postal Service. All mailed communication to constituents include a method for opting out of any sharing of their data. We will share personal information obtained online only when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our rights, or protect the safety of our users or others. Constituents can have their names removed from any postal mailing list Chinese Economic Development Council shares or by sending an email to info@cedc-boston.org.

Email Communications

We may occasionally send out a direct email communications to highlight news, information and opportunities available from the Chinese Economic Development Council. You may elect not to have us contact by sending an email to info@cedc-boston.org.

Security

The Chinese Economic Development Council does not store any credit card information or constituent personal data on its websites/online. We employ service provider PayPal for our online user email and customer databases.

PayPal does not store any credit card information. They are responsible solely for transmitting cardholder data to the payment gateway for processing customer payments and online donations. Any billing information that Paypal accepts in this process is encrypted and passed through to the payment gateway using TLS 1.0+ technology (all gateway transactions are TLS 1.2). PayPal is fully PCI compliant.

The Chinese Economic Development Council constituent and donor information processed in PayPal undergoes 1.0+ encryption.  Our online user database stored by PayPal features their enterprise-level, application level protection with managed backups, advanced monitoring and a robust intrusion prevention system. Nevertheless, despite our best efforts and those of our service providers, no transmission over the Internet and no data storage method can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
